Skin Door

Borotik Skin Doors refers to that class of doors that encompasses finger jointed chemically treated and seasoned solid wooden frame with a core of structural paper in a honeycomb pattern, manufactured and marketed by Borotik India Pvt Ltd. The superiority of Borotik skin doors is due to its state of the art vacuum treatment and seasoning. The frame acts as the backbone of door stability while the honeycomb core forms the crux of door strength. The honeycomb core is sandwiched between two door skins and is glued to hold the wood frame, honeycomb and the door skins together. Lock blocks and hinge stiles are provided for installing ironmongery. This door is the best in class and comes with an unmatched assurance of quality. This door has certain unique structural details that must be explained in detail.

Finger Joint

It is a woodworking joint made by machining a pair of corresponding interlocking profiles in two wood pieces. They are glued together to give a resemblance to the interlocking of fingers between two hands and therefore are known as finger joints.

  • Finger joints elevate the lumber quality by eliminating knots, defects region and joining back the defect free pieces.
  • Finger joints reduce timber wastage and increase material utilization as small pieces can be joined together to form long panels.
  • Compared to edge and other common joints, the available surface area for bonding is much higher which results in superior joint strength.
  • High bonding BWR or BWP adhesive as per BIS standards (IS 848) are used so that the strength of the finger joints is on par with that of solid wood.
  • Finger joints act as crack arrestors so that regions of failure do not propagate from one piece to another. This results in significant increase in panel life.
  • Usually, finger joints face the problem of starving which is the absorption of the glue by the wood resulting in reduced joint strength. Borotik finger joints do not face such issues as the timber we use is chemically treated and seasoned under specific conditions.

Honeycomb

The honeycomb core is an engineered composite that encompasses uniformly spaced layers of structural paper bonded together in parallel. They form a cluster of hexagonal shaped cells, commonly termed as honeycomb when expanded to use. The structural paper is usually recycled paper waste, cardboards etc. and are non-toxic. The honeycomb core replaces the solid wood or solid wood fillings used in solid and solid core doors respectively. The thickness of the paper sheets can be varied to vary the transverse strength of the honeycomb core.

The advantages of Honeycomb core are listed below:

  • Extremely lightweight and produced from recycled paper resulting in cost, material and weight savings.
  • They have minimal density resulting in very high specific strength or strength to weight ratio
  • They are orthotropic materials having highest possible out of plane shear and compression strength which protects against transverse shocks and impacts.

Advantages:

  • Due to absence of any solid wood or fillings within the core, these doors are extremely lightweight and offer an economic alternative to other conventional doors.
  • Due to its lightweight nature, these doors drastically diminish the intensity of shock loads resulting in low probability of crack propagation in the doors as well as highest protection to children or fingers caught in the way of its violent motion.
  • Due to symmetry of the lock and hinge blocks, the doors can be used in any type of flipped orientation.
  • Borotik specially treated and season timber ensures that there will be no distortion or warpage in the dimensions while ensuring highest door strength and durability.
  • Doors can be customized to a variety of sizes as per customer requirements.
  • The honeycomb provides excellent moment of inertia that directly translates into high out of the plane strength and stiffness.
  • Structurally stable frame ensures safe load distribution throughout the door and prevents any local failure.
  • These doors have the least cost, extremely lightweight and high strength to weight ratio.
  • Superior technology, equipment and workmanship result in an unmatched product that has the least possible distortion, warping and highest possible strength and life.
  • They are chemically treated to be impervious to termite, borer and fungi attack
